Family Support For Recovery
Family Support for Recovery Resources
Family support for recovery is absolutely necessary for any family to heal. Are you coping with an addiction in your family. Think of addiction or mental illness recovery like a family facing any physical disease. You don’t pretend it isn’t happening. Everyone works together to help each other heal and thrive.
One person in recovery is alone, but a whole family together in recovery is a commitment to restoring relationships and mental health. Families need recovery support resources and often therapy, too. Everyone is affected. Behavior disorders (like gambling, food and other issues) as well as Substance and Alcohol Use Disorders (the official term for addiction these days) are a family disease of brain reward. It doesn’t just happen to you overnight. Destructive conditioning can make family members even sicker than those family members using drugs and alcohol.
Addiction, whether new to a family, or recurring over generations, causes family dysfunction and mental illness of varying degrees. But recovery is possible. 23 million Americans are in some form of recovery from an addiction. You can recover, too. Here are some resources to get you started.
