Narcissists Like To Rewrite History

Narcissists like to rewrite history for many different reasons – all of which are to keep themselves on their pedestal of lies. It’s hard to keep from falling straight into their fantasy world where they’re the superheroes and the people around them are either the villains or simply in distress. You’re not crazy – just keep out of their delusions. Here are a few steps to take if you’re looking to leave a narcissist.

Don’t Tell Narcissists You’re Leaving

This sounds a lot like ghosting, right? But don’t tell them you’re leaving right away. Narcissists know how to trap you: either through bombarding you with love or using your weaknesses and traumas to keep you under their thumbs.

Get Help From Trusted Friends And Family

This is a good time to ask for help. Before telling the narcissist in your life that you’re leaving, get help and advice from others who you know care about and support you. Don’t go through this parting alone because it can get messy and pretty difficult.

Don’t Give Narcissists That “Last Chance”

It’s not worth it. Any sort of toxic relationship should be broken off as soon as possible, as safely as possible. Toxic relationships are dangerous in many ways, which means that one last chance gives them even more opportunities to really hurt their victims. Get help and get out.

If you’re unsure of how to spot a narcissist, test your knowledge and take the quiz.
