Quick And Easy Self Care Ideas We Practice Daily
Do you have all the easy self care ideas you need for your mental health this spring? Self care is incredibly important for your mental health, as it gives your body and mind the break they so desperately need to prevent burnout. Self care can also take many different forms. You might think of getting a nice massage or going away for a vacation, but there are smaller ways to get your daily self care as well.
We aren’t robots, we need regular rests and break sessions. It’s important to schedule in short breaks throughout the day, even if you’ve got a lot on. In fact, it’s been found that taking regular breaks can actually make you more productive, which gives you another reason to do so.
So what can you do in 10-15 minutes to give yourself a break?
Easy Self Care Ideas 1: Keep Limber With Stretches
We do this all day long. Move around. Don’t just sit in one place. Even when you’re relaxing on the sofa. Keep Stretching. If you’re sitting down doing office work, remember to get up and move, even get a drink of water. Sitting all day can be bad for your back and circulation, and staring at a screen can lead to neck and eye strain.
Make sure to look away from your screen and at a fixed point to rest your eyes every now and then. When you take a short break, do some stretches to prevent your body from stiffening up. Every fifteen minutes is the recommended time for mini break and stretch taking.
Easy Self Care Ideas 2: Go for a Short Walk
Depending on how much time you have, you might just take a short walk around the office or the house, but if possible, try to walk outside. On a nice day, take your breaks in a nearby park or garden, as the sun and plants will be good for you.
Walking will keep your body loose and will be good for your circulatory system. This is also a good reason to resist putting a coffee machine in your office, as the short walks to the kitchen are good for you. When you walk outside you can get a slice of much needed nature even if you live in the city. There’s life all around you. Be in awe of beauty around you.
Easy Self Care Ideas 3: Journal
Wonder what’s on your mind. Do you think the same things over and over and never get past the same nagging emotions. Time to journal for self esteem building. Keeping a journal can be really helpful for you mental health. This helps you to jot down your thoughts and feelings, which in turn allows you to process them. Your journal should be private, because this gives you the freedom to write anything, even things that don’t sound great. We love journal prompts because they can get you thinking alone new ways.
Another way to journal is to be creative. Write short poems or make up scenarios and jot them down. This is fun, breaks up the workday, and it can help you work through other problems because you allow your mind to focus on something else for a short time.
Easy Self Care Ideas 4: Play Short Games
Another way to rest your mind while keeping it active is to play games. One of our favorite easy self care ideas that we practice every day is mind games that enhance brain function and memory. You can play online games like solitaire, poker, and even roulette to put your mind off your work and your worries. These games have short sessions and are very easy to get into, allowing you to play a couple of rounds while you sip on your drink. But be care and set a time to stop.
Other games that work for us are puzzle games. Cross words and Wordle and others like them. If you work from home, you can even have a jigsaw puzzle on the go that you can pop in and out of throughout the day.
