It doesn’t matter how old or young you are. You need sleep to recharge your brain and body. 7- 8 hours sleep are ideal. You may not think you need it, but you do. How to get more sleep when you have trouble getting enough rest.

Go to bed earlier, and make sure you are limiting your caffeine and alcohol intake. If you have trouble sleeping, don’t have caffeinated drinks in the afternoon. Turn off your devices and TV at least a half an hour before going to bed.

Listen to soothing sounds, read a book. Consider your mattress, pillow, and ambient noises. What could be keeping you up? If you wake up in the night, what’s better to stay in bed, or get up an read for a bit? Everyone’s different. Journaling if you’re worried about something can also relieve pressure before going to bed. Consider your sleep hygiene. What are your habits an how can you improve.

We’ve put nutrition last because eating healthy and weight management is the toughest challenge many people face. How do we eat healthy and manage weight when so many foods we love are addictive? Literally addictive. Those chips, those candy bars, those cookies and fries.

All are tied into the part of our brain that thinks we’re doing it a favor. Our brain doesn’t know the difference between what feels good and what can do harm. It’s not your fault if you choose the foods that your taste buds have learned to crave. Eating healthy is a skill that anyone can learn.

Here, we’re just going to give you a few self care tips to think healthier to start eating healthier. The three As work here. Awareness, Acceptance, Action. Be aware that all foods are not equally good for you and you have control over what you eat. Accept that foods you want can be harmful to your health goals. Take action and make a eat healthy plan. Baby steps. We’ll give you some here.

Stay hydrated

Drinking water keeps you filled up. It takes your mind off of snacking and is vital for good health in summer.

Eat Something Every Few Hours

Never let yourself get too hungry. Getting too hungry gives you low blood sugar, makes you irritable, and motivates you to eat too much when food is available. The solution is to take an apple or healthy snack with you. And we don’t mean a bag of chips.

Consider Substitutions

This takes some thought. Can you eat an apple instead of a donut? The donut may taste better at first, but if you begin making healthy substitutions, you’ll start preferring the apple. Step one is replace the donuts (cookies cakes) with fruit at the grocery store. Just don’t have them at home.

In summer we have watermelon and other melons and so many kinds of fresh fruit. Substitute yogurt for ice cream. Nuts for Nutella. Baked potato for fries. You get the idea. This takes practice. But works if you keep at it.

Manage Your Carbohydrates 

Here are a few self care tips for managing those oh- so-tempting pancakes, waffles, donut, cookie cravings. We love to cook and eat, but we don’t eat everything we cook every day. We do the substitutions during the week and allow ourselves a special Sunday breakfast with the treat of our choice. We just don’t eat those treats every day. It makes a huge difference.

Use Math And Creativity

We talked about awareness. Turn your awareness into creativity to be aware of what you eat, and calculate how you can make changes. This turns cravings into creativity and that is great for brain function and feeling good about yourself. This isn’t for everyone, but for obsessives, like us, it’s great.

Make lists of what you normally eat in a day. Do the math. Consider substitutions and do the math of how many calories that will save you. This is for the math fans. There are many aps for this. Eating health can be a matter of choosing a healthy eating ap that will do the work for you.
